87, Whitney Pier
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Alice Beatrice Poirier, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
Born in Glace Bay, Alice was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Bernadette (Bates) Dye. As a child, Alice worked in her parents’ store, Dye Convenience, and continued to delight family and friends with the family toffee candy recipe throughout her life. Married for 58 years until his passing in 2015, Alice and Paul raised a large, caring family. A devoted wife, Alice spent many years caring for Paul. Alice’s deep Catholic faith was the foundation of her life and a quiet source of strength, kindness, and compassion. A lifelong member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Alice faithfully attended Mass throughout her life and found great comfort and joy in her church community. She also volunteered in the clothing room, organizing donations, the Loaves and Fishes, and at a variety of events and fairs.
.Additionally, Alice enjoyed a lifetime of canine and feline companions, knitting for family and church fairs, playing piano and bingo, eating lobster, and collecting mysterious postcards from around the world. She enjoyed travelling by train to visit family across Canada. Most of all, Alice especially loved whenever her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would return home to Cape Breton.
Dearest mother of Paulette (Brian) Timmons, Sydney Forks, late Clara (late Joseph) Tomiczek, Brantford, ON, Trenia (late Scott) Brophey, Windsor, ON, Clement, Edmonton, AB, Philip, Edmonton, AB, Cordell, Brantford, ON, and Mark, Whitney Pier.

Treasured great-grandmother of Brooke, Ethan, Evany, Aubrie, Mia, Zachary, Faith, Hope, Honor, Isaiah, Meadow, Elijah, Noah, Julien, and Madeleine.
Alice is also survived by brothers-in law, Bernard (Linda) Poirier, Ernie (late Audrey) Ranni, and sister-in-law Mary Evelyne (Billy) Wells. She was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, special uncle (Ivan Bates) and special aunt (Florence Bates) and friends.
