Ball’s Creek

It is with overwhelming sadness that we, the family of Florence Catherine MacPherson, announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend at the Glace Bay General Hospital on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Born on March 25, 1967, in Sydney, Florence was the daughter of the late Malcom and Peggy (Timmons) MacPherson.

Florence is survived by her two sons, Coady (Nikki) Bennett and Phoenix (Melanie) Morrison; granddaughter, Alexis; grandsons, Gregory, Charlie and their mother, Maelyn; sisters, Debbie (Phillip) Timmons, Carmella (Ron) Vassallo, and sister at heart, Wanda LeBlanc (niece); brother-in-law, Alex Hill; lifelong friend, Michelle Anstey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she love profoundly.

Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by son, Gregory; brothers Charles (Ruby), and Stephen, and sister, Colleen Hill.

Florence lived fiercely by the motto “lean into the discomfort”, never afraid to start anew, start again or start over. She had a long list of hobbies and adventures throughout her life, most of which reflected her dedication to being a caregiver, both personally and professionally. Florence warmed every room with her quick wit and beaming smile, which she never missed the opportunity to flash at herself in any mirror she passed. Her two greatest passions were family and music, which meant teaching her boys to dance in the kitchen, sing in the car and jam with friends. Her final journey arrived much too soon, but life is a song she was never scared to sing. To meet her was to love her.

On behalf of Florence, the family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff on 3 South at the Glace Bay General Hospital for the compassionate care and dignity they provided over the past few years.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Florence MacPherson will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, July 16, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will take place from noon to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place in Saint Columba Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek Road.

Donations in memory of Florence may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
