It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, of the late Martha ‘Jean’ Harte announce her passing on Friday, June 26, 2026, at MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney, surrounded by family, at the of age 99.

Jean was predeceased by her soul mate, her husband, James David Harte; daughter, Cora Jean Burke; son, David Harte and grandson, Anthony Burke.

Jean will be missed by her children, Judy (Max) Legault, Jim (Sheilia) Harte, Greg (Judy) Harte, Denise (Billy) Burke, Collette (Alan) Hutt, Ian (Elaine) Harte, and Darlene (Dennis) Organ. She is also survived by her sister, Urma Bouque and her brother, Alfred Deviller. Jeann was the loving grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Jean loved life, but most of all she loved her family. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to help anyone whether it was a neighbourhood family or volunteering her time to help others in need. She was a member of the Canadian Legion, Catholic Women’s League, and strong supporter and member of Christmas Helper’s. Jean was a true humanitarian at heart and helping others brought her so much joy.

With the greatest appreciation of the professional staff who went above their call of duties, caring for Jean during her time at MacGillivray Guest Home.

Visitation and Memorial Mass for the late Jean Harte will be held at the Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Visitation will take place from 1-2 p.m. with the Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 2 p.m. with Fr. Ikechukwu Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. Interment will take place in Stella Maris Parish Cemetery, Louisbourg, with reception to follow in Louisbourg Fire Hall.

Donations in memory of Jean may be made to Down Syndrome Society or a charity of one’s choice.
