Glace Bay / Fort McMurray

Gordie’s story began on May 2, 1969 and his final page was written on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Anyone that has ever had the pleasure of meeting Gordie will remember the big smile he always had on his face. He was a unique soul who could befriend any person he ever met. Gordie’s charisma, big heart and laugh will live on through all of the memories and stories we all so fondly share.

Gordie was a fisherman for over 30 years and his love of the ocean and being on the water came through in almost any conversation he would have. Gordie will live on through all the people who loved him so much and that is no short list.

Gordie is survived by his two cherished children, Joni (Carlton) Curtis and Dylan Curtis; loving mother, Elizabeth (Burton) MacKillop; friend and father, Gordon MacKillop; loving brother, John (Lynette) MacKillop; three loving sisters, Francine McCready, Dawn (Wayne) O’Hara and Jennifer (Tyler) MacDonald; special aunts and uncles, Peggie Petrie, Murdock (Violet) Burton, Donnie (Donna) MacKillop, George MacKillop, Willie (Marguerite) MacKillop, Marilyn MacKillop and his special aunt, Theresa (Kenneth) MacKinnon, who was like a sister to him; many nieces, nephews, cousins and the mother of his children and friend, Joanne Curtis.

Gordie is predeceased by maternal grandparents, Alex and Mary Burton; paternal grandparents, John and Hilda MacKillop; aunts, Alexis MacDonald, Carol O’Brien, Karen Simmons and uncles, George Burton, Jimmy Burton and Roddie MacKillop.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the late Gordon MacKillop will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at St. Margaret’s of Scotland Church in St. Margaret’s Village. Memorial Mass will follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Ikechukwu Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery, St. Margaret’s Village. Following the committal, a reception catered by the C.W.L will be held in the Fr. James Room, St. Margaret’s Village.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gordie may be made to the St. Margaret’s Church Cemetery Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
