65, Sydney

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Mary Theresa Mombourquette, announce her passing on Aug. 16, 2012, at home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Mary was surrounded by all those who loved her until the end.

Born in Sydney and raised in the North End, Mary was the daughter of the late Mildred (Whalen) and Raymond Delaney.

Known to many as Mary but to most as Theresa, mom was the most kind and generous person you would ever meet. She took great pride in providing a warm comfortable home for her family and on many occasions took in those in need for however long they needed it. Mary enjoyed spending many late nights with her club ladies playing cards and sharing a few laughs. There wouldn’t be many Thursday nights at branch 128 Legion without seeing her and Tom rock n rollin on the dance floor. Known for her home cooked meals, mom ensured that everyone had hot gravy when she was around and made sure you left her home full.

Surviving her after 42 years of marriage is her loving husband, Tom; children, Tommy (Susan), Nicole (Jaime) Taylor and Theresa (Terry Pearson); three precious grandchildren whom she adored so much, Bradley, Jessica and newest addition Sophie Lynn. Also surviving are siblings, David, Hamilton, Ont., Alice, Sydney, Ann Madore, Oshawa Ont., Barbara Mombourquette, Sydney; along with many sisters and brothers-in-law, whom she held very dear to her heart. Mary also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was like a second mother; and many many dear friends.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Jimmy, Bernie, Kevin and Pat; mother and father in-law, Mary Ellen and Neil ‘Cubie’ Mombourquette; and nephew, Brian Delaney.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to Palliative Care Society, VON or Red Cross Services.

The family would like to take this time to say thank you to Dr. F. Buhariwalla, Dr. A.F. D’Intino and the palliative care and VON nurses, who provided exceptional care to us all throughout the past few months.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
