With sadness, we the family regret to announce the passing of Kevin Michael Murphy on Saturday, March 24, 2012, in the An Cala Palliative Care unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a courageous battle of cancer.

Born June 4, 1954, in Sydney, Kevin was the son of Gerald and the late Connie (McNeil) Murphy.

Kevin was a longtime employee of Disco Tire, Sydney. He enjoyed the simple things in life, his daily dose of Jeopardy, watching the car races, and always a book in hand.

Kevin will be missed by his father, Gerald Murphy, South Bar; brothers, Keith (Brenda), Courtenay, B.C., Paul (Ann-Marie), Edmonton, Alta., and Mike (Iris), South Bar; sisters, Anne Sullivan, Howie Centre, and Karen (Roger) MacIsaac, Amherst; 10 nieces and nephews; and one great-niece who he always found time for.

Kevin was predeceased by his mother, Connie (McNeil) Murphy in 1997.

Visitation for the late Kevin Michael Murphy will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Monday, March 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Kevin’s life will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines.

Donations in memory of Kevin may be made the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or charity of your choice.

The Murphy family gives gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit and Northside General Hospital for the care given to Kevin during his time of need. Special thanks to Kevin’s pallbearers and also to his longtime friends, Allen and Beverly Young.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
