65, Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that I, John Shepard announce the passing of my dear wife, Linda Elizabeth Shepard on Feb. 19, 2012, in the An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with me at her side.

Born in Glace Bay, Linda was the youngest daughter of the late Wilfred and Helen (Nellie) Roberts.

Linda was educated in Glace Bay and had spent much of her adult life in the Halifax area, working as a store manager, ladies clothing buyer, and for a number of years ran her own businesses in the Halifax area before returning to our roots in Cape Breton following our retirements.

Linda will be sadly missed by her husband, John Shepard after sharing a married life together for over 46 years. She is also survived by a brother, Jim (Elanor) Roberts.

Besides her parents, Linda was predeceased by brothers, Norman at infancy and John, and a sister, Wilma Ogilvie (Henry).

Following organ donation, cremation has taken place by Linda’s request. Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Linda Elizabeth Shepard will be held at Knox United Church, Glace Bay on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. John Finlayson officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the church hall. A private family interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney at a later date.

No flowers by request, donations in memory of Linda may be made to the Palliative Care Society, Knox United Church or charity of your choice.

Special thanks are expressed to the doctors, nurses and other staff of both Cape Breton Cancer Center and the Palliative Care unit for their thoughtful and caring treatments of Linda throughout the stages of her illness.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
