With sadness and fond memories we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Mary MacDonald on Nov. 23, 2011 in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.

Born on Oct. 4, 1912, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Jane Coady. She is the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Evelyn was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church and a charter CWL member. She taught for several years in her earlier years in Cape Breton and owned and operated The Cottage Luncheonette (the place where the fishermen gathered) until her retirement. Evelyn will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Evelyn is survived by her cousins, Belle Cruickshank, Halifax and Alice Callahan, Antigonish. She is also survived by long time friend and neighbour, Annebelle Tompkins; as well as Margie and Steve MacLennan and a circle of many good friends.

Besides her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, David; sister, Gertrude MacLennan and four brothers, Francis, Vincent, Leo and Harold.

Visitation for the late Evelyn Mary MacDonald will be held on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Church Hall, North East Margaree. Funeral mass to celebrate the life of Evelyn Mary MacDonald will be held on Monday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.

Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
