It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of James ‘Jim’ Antle on Oct. 2, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney, May 8, 1936, he was the son of the late Raymond and Catherine (Weeks) Antle.

Jim and his dog, Molly were well known and loved in the Pier. He served with the cruise ships as a tour guide. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128. Jim enjoyed baseball games, especially the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved playing his guitar and listening and singing country western music.

Jim will always be remembered as a kind and caring man. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, especially for his terrific sense of humour. Jim always had a special place in his heart for animals.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Chris) Emsley, Barrie, Ont.; his sons, Jimmie (Christine), Brockville, Ont., Michael (Sandra), Brampton, Ont. and his dear friend and former wife, Ruby (Furdas) Antle, Barrie, Ont. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Kristina (Jay), Kayla, Braden, Cameron, Austin, Michael, Matthew, Patrick and great-grandson, Reiley James. Jim is also survived by his sister, Stash (late Ed) Tell, Toronto, Ont.; brothers, Edward (late Doris), Howie Centre, Gordon (Doreen), Courtenay, B.C., Raymond Jr. (Kay), Sydney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son, Bobby and sisters, Mary Bennett and Loretta Jamieson.

At Jim’s request there will be no visitation for cremation has taken place. A memorial mass to celebrate the life of Jim Antle will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshment will be served at the Pier Community Funeral Home in the reception area. Interment will take place in Forest Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Palliative Care Society CB Regional Hospital or charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
