79, Westmount

With sadness, we the family regret to announce the passing of Allen Lorie Landsburg on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born June 13, 1932, in Kemptown, N.S., Allen was the son of the late Lockhart and Mabel (Fenton) Landsburg.

Allen was a member of the RCMP, Marine Division in his younger years, and retired from CNR after 38 and a half years as a telegrapher. He loved to tour around Cape Breton and spend time at the old cabin in Margaree. Allen and Lillian always enjoyed dancing. His greatest joy in life was having his family and grandchildren around him. Allen will always be remembered by family and friends as an awesome and very honest man, who had a green thumb.

Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years of marriage, Lillian (Murphy) Landsburg; daughters, Carrie Burton (Faron), Kelly Poirier (Henry) and Mabel Barrett (David); and son, Brent (Joanne); grandchildren, Matthew, Katelyn, Morgan, Mark, Adam, Chase, Heather, Shelly and Brett; and a great-granddaughter, Karly Sue. He is also survived by a brother, Seth; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Allen was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy, James, Fred, Burrell, Kathleen, Helen, Editha and his twin brother, Alvin who was his best friend.

Visitation for the late Allen Lorie Landsburg will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Allen’s life will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Fr. Douglas Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
