It is with sadness, we the family, announce the passing of Robert Lawrence Burton on Sunday, April 24, 2011, which occurred at the home of his son and daughter in-law, Nipawin, Sk.

Born in Inverness, on February 8, 1938, Lawrence was the son of the late Robert and Laura (Young) Burton.

Lawrence grew up in Frizzleton, Margaree Valley and on May 16, 1961 married Mary L. Fortune at St. Patrick’s Church in North East Margaree.

Lawrence was employed at the Louisburg Fish Plant and later worked for Lee Fraser, Fraser’s Mill in Margaree Valley, performing varied jobs at the sawmill as well as a woods worker for many years. In later years, Lawrence worked for Carl Hart, until a back injury forced him to leave the workplace. Lawrence was a dedicated viewer of Mass for Shut-ins and other specific TV programs of interest.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Bernard; daughter in-law, Elaine; sister, Loretta Ross, Margaree Valley; brother, Wilbert Burton, Sydney; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his sisters, Mary MacNeil, Georgina Doyle and Clara Hannigan; brothers, Johnny, Donald, Alex, Harold, Joseph Burton in infancy; and sister-in-laws, Francis Burton and Henrietta Burton.

Visitation for the late Robert Lawrence Burton will be held at St. Patrick’s Hall, North East Margaree on Monday, May 9, 2011 from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to celebrate Lawrence’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Vincent van Zupten officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.

Family flowers only. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in memory of Lawrence may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Cancer Patient Care Fund.

The family at this time wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Jim Burton for taking the time to be with them in Nipawin. We would like to give a special word of thanks to the Lions Club members of Nipawin for the support during our time of need. As well as to Basil and Rosemarie Forsberg of Heritage Funeral Home Ltd., Nipawin, Sk. for their care, compassion and attention to detail, we will be forever thankful.
