83, Sydney
It is with sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Bernard A. ‘Bernie’ Fleet, on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in South Bar, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Mary Ann (MacDonald) Fleet.
Bernie was ‘free spirited’ who loved to read, sing and travel. In his earlier days, he attended Holy Redeemer Boys School and Sydney Academy. He later moved to Ontario and worked for Canadian National Railway until his retirement.
Bernie will always be remembered as a ‘thoughtful person’. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his three children, Paula, Christopher and Robert Fleet; and a brother, Joe Fleet.
Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his two sons, Bruce and Ian Fleet, and a brother, Gregory at infancy.
Visitation and funeral service to honor the late Bernie A. ‘Bernie’ Fleet will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, March 19, 2011. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Light refreshments will be served following the service in the reception area. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
At this time, the Fleet family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. K. Cadegan and all the staff on fourth floor, Glace Bay Hospital for their professional and tender care of Bernie in his time of need.
