90, Whitney Pier

It is with sadness that we, the family announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Iris Stewart on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at home.

Born in North Sydney, September 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lillian (Parsons) Reid.

Iris was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Church. She was a stay home mom who was devoted to her children and grandchildren.

Iris will be sadly missed by her family and all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Surviving are her daughters, Heather Balsille, Hamilton, Ont., Shirley (David) Gaede, Westmount; sons, Barry (Margie), Sydney, Elroy (Mary), Marion Bridge, Donnie (Paula), Sydney, Lee (Susan), Sydney; brother-in-law, James (Betty) Stewart; and sister-in-law, Louise MacLean. Iris is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren

Besides her parents, Iris was predeceased by her husband Elroy Stewart; longtime companion, Leonard “Nicker” Hollohan; brothers, Eugene, Randolph and Robert Reid and sisters, Olga MacLean, Opal Bonnar and Madge Baker.

Visitation and memorial service for the late Iris Stewart will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, October 7, 2010. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with memorial service to follow with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Reception will be shared after the service. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Garden, Sydney.

Donations in Iris’s memory may be made to the VON Adult Day Program.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
