It is with sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Lauchie Johnston, on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Sydney, October 2, 1938, he was the son of the late Lauchlin and Margaret (MacNeil) Johnston.

For many years Lauchie was employed at the old NSLC on George Street in Sydney. He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, loved Toronto Blue Jays.

He will always be remembered as a very friendly and personable man who enjoyed a good laugh with friends and family.

Lauchie is survived by his two sisters, Lillian and Anna Johnston; two nieces, Sharon (Sandy) Campbell and Michelle (Kenny) Rich; three nephews, Kevin, Raymond (Janet) and Michael Johnston. He is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Besides his parents, Lauchie was predeceased by his brother, James (Sonny) Johnston.

Visitation for the late Lauchie Johnston will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 2–4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Lauchie’s life will be held at the funeral home in the All Faiths Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 11a.m. with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating, with reception to follow. Private family interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney at a later date.

Memorial donations in Lauchie’s memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
