1927-2009

It is with heartfelt sadness we regretfully announce the death of our father, Earl Clifford Head, who passed away peacefully on December 26, 2009 after a short illness in his 82 year at Glace Bay Healthcare Hospital.

Born in Sydney, NS, he was the son of the late Adam and Louisa (Rolfe) Head.

Earl was a devoted family man and a friend to many, known affectionately as “The Milkman”. Dad was a long time member of the Salvation Army, Whitney Pier Corps, and served in many capacities within the church, freely giving on his time and resources wherever there was a need. He served overseas with the Canadian Army during the Korean Conflict (1951-54) and was a long time employee with Brookfield, Cape Breton, and Scotsburn Dairies until his retirement in 1991.

Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by his wife of forty-five years, Louise (Gosse)(1999), sister, Lillian; brother, Clyde (2009) and four siblings in infancy, Nell, Adam, John and Cyril.

He is survived by his eight children: Adam(Sheila) Gander, NL., Ron(Noreen) Pine Falls, Man., Earlene Deveaux, Debbie(Brian) Edwards, Stephen, Sydney, NS., Nancy(Darren) Bert, Eastern Passage, NS., Karen(Francis) MacDonald, Boisdale, NS., David, Dartmouth, NS., as well as eleven grand children and five great grand children whom he cherished very much.  Also surviving are four sisters, Florence, Nancy (George), Mary and Greta; as well as five brothers, Walter (Gladys), Bill (Tina), Rolf, Carl and Melvin (Doris).

Visitation for the late Earl Head will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 2–4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Earl’s life will be held in the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Thursday, Dec 31 at 2 p.m. with Major Bill Head officiating.  Interment will take place in Eastmount Cemetery on East Broadway Street, Whitney Pier. Reception will take place in the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in Earl’s memory may be made to the Down Syndrome Society or Alzheimer Society.
