1953 – 2009

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Manning Geddes of Sydney on Saturday, September 26, 2009. Robert was the beloved Husband for 35 years of Ruthanne (Eddy) and father of Barbara Geddes. Robert was the son of Roy B. Geddes and step-mother, Hazel (Winsor Olson) Geddes.

Robert was predeceased by his son, Benjamin (Ben), mother, Madeline (Geldart) and father-in-law, Arnold Eddy.

Left to mourn are sister, June MacLean, Sydney; brother, Lee, Sydney; step-brother, Bruce Olson (Judy), Sydney River and step-sister, Carolyn Waterfield. In addition are: special nieces, Susan MacLean (Roger) and Ann Young (Doug and Jennifer), Alberta; God-daughter, Tryphena Fisher-Long, and many nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn are mother in-law, Anna Eddy and Ruthanne’s eight siblings, their families and many children. Not to mention Robert’s closest ‘partners in crime:’ Robert Mahoney, Vince Carrigan, Greg MacEachern, and Jim Spagnolatti (and the members of the Cape Breton Antique and Custom Car Club). Additionally, the many friends who will miss Robert extend beyond the boundaries of our small Island.

Robert was an original partner in Nardocchio Geddes Hyundai dealership, and enjoyed his career in the car business until forced to retire due to Illness.

Robert was in the process of restoring a 1935 Ford Flat-Back in memory of his son Ben. Now in memory of both, his family will finish restoring and show his passion proudly at car shows to come. He also cherished his 1967 Ford Thunderbird which he not only showed annually but would often generously chauffer beloved family and friends during their special occasions.

Visitation for the late Robert Geddes will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Road (entrance on Church Street) on Monday Sept. 28 from 6-9 p.m.. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Tuesday Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating. Reception will take place immediately after the funeral service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
