75, Whitney Pier

It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Helen A. (MacGuigan) Perry on Wednesday April 29, 2009 at the QEII Health Sciences Center in Halifax.

Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lena MacGuigan.

Helen was a lifelong member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Whitney Pier.

She was a kind and gentle soul who was loved and admired by all who knew her.

She was an avid dart player and was a member of many dart leagues where she made countless friends. She also loved her church Bingo at St Phillips and was a friend to all at the William Street Seniors. There were few social events that Helen did not attend.

Momma is survived by her three daughters, Mary (Kenny) Poirrier, Darlene, Sandra (Larry) Hrynick, all of Sydney; four sons, Blaine (Rhonda), Sydney, Glen (Christine) and Leo (Roberta) both from Ontario and Brent (Wendy), Sydney. She is survived by sisters, Dorothy Cahill, Kingston, Ont. and Millie Chisholm, Riverview, NB.

Loving grandmother, she was affectionately known as Nanny Ma to her 14 grandchildren, Christopher (Kimmy), Keegan, Michael, Kendra, Tiffany (Adam), Billie, Nicholas, Chad, Zacchary, Devon, Blake, Owen, Damon and Savana and two great grandchildren, Rylan and Braylan.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Tom; two brothers, Pete and one in infancy; and a sister, Annie MacDonald.

Visitation for the late Helen A. Perry will take place at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Road (entrance on Church Street) on Sunday, May 3 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Father Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment will be at Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier with the reception to follow at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Reception Room.

Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Holy Redeemer Building Fund or charity of choice. 

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
