83, Whitney Pier

It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of our father, Mike Cipak, on Friday, February 6, 2009, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Whitney Pier, April 20, 1925, he was the son of the late John Stanley and Nellie (Ruainska-Carberry) Cipak.

A veteran of World War II, Mike finished his working career at Sydney Steel. He enjoyed sports; played hockey, baseball, darts and bowling. His biggest love was his family and his generosity and spirit of giving touched so many. Mike spent countless hours entertaining children with his magic shows, homemade rides, ice rinks and mini putt in the backyard.

Mike was a strong member of the N.D.P. party, Sydney Co-op, Whitney Credit Union, and Steel Centre Credit Union.

He will be sadly missed by his family and all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Surviving are his three daughters, Michele (Brad) Skinner, Francine (Will) Naylor and Rhoda (Roger) Tubrett; four sons, Ronnie (Patsy), Mickey (Debbie), Steve (Ruth) and Buddy (Marilyn); two sisters, Mamie (Ray), Ontario, Frances, Colorado and sister-in-law, Gladys Dawson. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
