87, Little Lorraine

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a loving mother, grandmother and sister, Florence Kennedy, Friday April 11, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Iona, she was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Katherine Ann MacNeil.

Florence was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Main a Dieu, as well as a lifetime member of CWL.

Florence was a very hard worker and dedicated her life in raising her family of eight. She is known for her independent strong will and kind heart. She is an avid quilt maker. Florence loved her home and would entertain with fresh homemade bread from the oven.

Surviving are her seven children, William (Alda), B.C., Jane (Al), Greenwood, N.S., Stephen, Alberta, Michael (Marlene), Alberta, Patsy (Dan), Louisbourg, Francis (Ronda), NFLD and Robert (Mary), Louisbourg; two sisters, Sara, Little Lorraine and Sister St. Columbia, Montreal; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by
her husband, Vincent in 2005, after 62 years of marriage; daughter, Bridget in 1998; grand daughter, Christine in 2000; five sisters, Mirah, Mary Ann, Kay, Sister Elizabeth and Sister Annie May; and five brothers, Hector, John, Neil, Mickey and Huey.

Visitation for the late Florence Kennedy will take place Sunday, April 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, Main a Dieu, N.S. A funeral mass to celebrate Florence’s life will be held Monday, April 14 at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Parish with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
