92, North East Margaree

Richard Douglas Marple passed away peacefully Thursday, May 17, 2012, in the Inverary Manor, Inverness, with his family by his side.

Born May 15, 1920 in North East Margaree, Richard was the son of the late David and Mary Ann (Timmons) Marple.

Richard lived in North East Margaree all his life where he farmed, lumbered and worked as a labourer. He enjoyed playing cards and checkers. He was a member of Wilson United Church. Richard lived at the Inverary Manor for the past four years, where he received tender loving care.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alice (Crowdis) Marple; children, Milton(Bernardine), Brenda (Lloyd) Ingraham, North East Margaree, Basil (Colleen), Boucherville, Que., Marlene (Alfred) Gallant, Sydney, and Ken (Lorne Fox), Toronto, Ont.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Ruby McEwen, Mitchell, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Margaret Marple and Rosie Tompkins; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by brothers, Kitchener, David and Wilfred; and sisters, Edith, Marion, Helen, Annie Jane, Mildred, Eulah and Margaret.

Visitation for the late Richard Douglas Marple will be held today (Saturday), May 19, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Wilson United Church Hall, Margaree Centre. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Richard Douglas Marple will be held on Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. in Wilson United Church with Norma Mills, DLM officiating. Interment will take place in the Congregational Cemetery, Margaree Centre.

Family flowers only, donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Wilson United Church or Inverary Manor.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
