Florence ‘Flora’ Canning, formerly of St. Patrick’s Channel, Cape Breton, passed away on Feb. 14, 2011.

Born on June 10, 1925, Flora was the daughter of the late Elizabeth MacLeod, St. Patrick’s Channel, and Chester MacKay, Big Baddeck Cape Breton.

Flora was most proud of her roll as loving mother and friend. Her love of piano and traditional Cape Breton music inspired her to be an accomplished musician. At the age of 60 she learned to drive. She worked at the Notre Dame Convent, Baddeck, and cherished the friendships made there.

Flora will be remembered by her family and friends for her ability to lead through example with her music, cheer, humour and being the effervescent shining light in our lives. She gave us inspiration and encouragement so freely.

Flora will be forever missed and remembered for her supper-human strength in enduring the suffering of this world with notable faith, dignity and courage, with immeasurable charm and intelligent witt and we were in awe of her loving courageous example.
