It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Mary Jane Mills on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Steelworkers Lane, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, while surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney on May 31, 1940, Jane was the daughter of the late Michael ‘Mike the Prompter’ and Mary Sarah MacNeil.
Jane began her career as a teacher. After her marriage to Teddy, they moved to Boston where she worked and acquired a lifelong love for the Boston Bruins. Upon returning home to Sydney, she worked several years at Kmart and finally retired from the Elizabeth Fry Society where she made many forever friends.
Jane is survived by her son, Craig (Colleen) Mills; cherished grandchildren, Christopher Madinsky, Danielle (Dave) Lewis, Halifax, Chelsea Madinsky, Shayne Mills, Aidan Mills, and Rory Mills; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Reese; sister, Marlene (the late Sheldon Pearson); brothers, Allan (Sadie), Bernie (Aileen), Reggie (Theresa), Leonard (Louise), and Gordie (Michele); sister-in-law, Lorna MacNeil; son-in-law, Wayne Madinsky; brother-in-law, Stan (Rhoda) Mills; special nephew, Jesee Pearson; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by her husband, Theodore ‘Teddy’ Mills; son, Gary; daughter, Janet (Wayne) Madinsky; brothers, Gerard, Mikey, and Joey; sisters-in-law, Brenda ‘Bunny’ MacNeil, Mary ‘Queenie’ MacLean, and brothers-in-law, Freddie, Malcolm, and Bert.
Jane was a kind, gentle lady who was loved by all of us along with the staff of Steelworkers Lane where she received excellent care.
As per Janes wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Jane Mills will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Friday, July 10, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Evo DiPierro officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Jane may be made to the Elizabeth Fry Society, the Alzheimers Society of NS or a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Craig , Wayne, Danielle, Chris, Chelsea and families I am so sorry to read of Jane’s passing. I hope she is having a little reunion with her loved ones that have gone before her. Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
So sorry to read about janes passing. We went to school together and to teachers college. She was a wonderful friend And a lovely person
