Whitney Pier
It is with profound sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Leo John Petruskavich on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 58 years of age. Leo was a man whose warmth, talent and incredible heart left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Leo had been a resident of the Moody Hall Long Term Care Home in Bedford, for the past year where he was supported daily by his brother, Pat until Pat’s passing in February of this year and, more recently by his cousin, Michael who was more like a brother to Leo.
A proud Pier boy through and through, he was the beloved son of the late Michael and Mary (Rykunyk) Petruskavich and was also predeceased by his brother, Pat.
Leo is survived by nephew, Ben and niece, Clare and their mother, Cara; uncle, Frank Petruskavich; aunts, Pauline Gabreau and Ruth Petruskavich; close cousins, Wanda Woodcock and Patricia McComb Boone.
Leo had a passion for beautiful homes and gardens and his cat, Bonnie. He especially loved the beautiful magnolia trees in the family yard. Those close to Leo would receive pictures annually when the magnolias were in full bloom. However, Leo’s true calling was found in the kitchen. A graduate of the culinary program at Holland College in Prince Edward Island, he turned his passion into a lifelong gift for others. For more than 30 years, he shared his talents at the Bonnie Prince Restaurant where he became well known not just for his skill, but for the secret ingredient he put into every single dish: pure love. Whether he was cooking a hearty meal or baking something sweet, Leo fed the souls of those around him just as much as he fed their appetites. It was there at the Bonnie Prince Restaurant that Leo formed a close, lasting friendship with Melissa Woodman with an unbreakable bond that will last into eternity. We can’t say enough about Melissa’s love and support for Leo over the years.
Leo leaves behind a legacy of laughter, wonderful memories, and a warmth that will be dearly missed but never forgotten by his family and friends and all who had the privilege of sharing a table with him. To know Leo was to know true loyalty, kindness and joy. It has been beautifully said that if you were lucky enough to have Leo as a friend, you were truly blessed in life.
Visitation for the late Leo Petruskavich will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at St. Mary’s Polish Church, 21 Wesley Street, Whitney Pier. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Leo’s may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
Rest in Peace Leo
