It is with great sadness that the family of Euphenia ‘Effie’ Detheridge, announce her passing on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the age of 80, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side.

Born in Sugarloaf, Victoria County, on September 3, 1945, Euphenia was the daughter of the late Roderick ‘Rory’ MacKinnon of Pleasant Bay and the late Sarah Fraser MacKinnon of Meat Cove.

Mom was the center of our family. She was our everything, our safe place and will be forever in out hearts.

Euphenia is survived by her five children, Charlie (Carly), June, Roberta (Leo), Jennifer ( Darren) and Sara (Scott); seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by sisters, Rosie Fitzgerald and Christy Burchell.

Besides her parents, Euphenia was predeceased by her husband, Robert Wright Detheridge; brothers, John A. MacKinnon, Wilson MacKinnon, John Roy ‘Shoggy’ MacKinnon and Roy MacKinnon; sisters, Hannah Fraser, Ann Jane Fraser, Tina MacKinnon, Katie Mae MacKinnon and Dolly MacKinnon.

Cremation has taken place under the care of the Pier Community Funeral Home. As requested by Eupenia, there will be no formal service. A private family gathering to celebrate the life of Euphenia will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Euphenia may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
