Sydney
The family of Sarah ‘Sally’ MacNeil regret to announce her passing on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Hospice Cape Breton.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Anne MacNeil (Andrew); three grandchildren, Ariane, Theodore, and Lilith Wong, and her beloved nephew, Vincent MacNeil, who all loved her deeply and cherished their time with her. She was surrounded with love by many extended family and friends including her nephews and nieces, Robert (Diane), Stewart (Linda) Mason, Lee (Kenny) Mason; her dear friend, Debbie, and cousin, Sr. Georgina MacInnis.
Sally was always quick to smile, laugh and could make anything fun. She liked to be outside walking, hiking and the beach, dipping her toes in any body of water. She truly appreciated the beauty of nature and Cape Breton. She cared deeply about people, offering prayers, time and anything she had to others. Sally was grounded by her faith and believed in the power of prayer.
Sally will be remembered for her kindness, strength, selflessness, and love for her family and friends.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing and give thanks in all things.”
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional hospital 4C and Hospice Cape Breton who all provided wonderful care and support to Sally in her time of need.
Donations in her memory may be made to Chalice: https://chalice.ca, a charity that Sally supported for many years.
There will be no visitation or service at this time, but a service for the late Sally MacNeil is planned for July 2026.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Anne & family, i am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. May you hold the many fond and happy moments close to heart.
Sally and I met in our 1st grade classroom at old St. Joseph’s School back in 1949. We always shared the back row when assembled for singing or seating, as we were taller than many of our classmates. Sally was always sweet, soft spoken and very kind. Rest in peace Sally. Lynne (Atchison) Pope
