Louisbourg
It is with heavy hearts that we share that our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Bagnell passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, Mary was the daughter of Margaret and Pasquale Coco. Mary trained and began her career as a proud and dedicated nurse, moving to Alberta with her husband, Warren, where they would start their family, serving in various areas, before settling in Louisbourg, where she devoted many years to supporting and caring for others as a caregiver.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son, John (Darlene); grandsons, Colton (Sonia), and Garrett (Kristin); and her treasured great-grandchildren, Emmett, Reece, Marlowe, and Kylo, who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her siblings, Ellie, Barbara, Sharon, Elaine (Eric), Earl (Beth), and Mike (Shannon); brother-in-law, Pierre; son-in-law, Dan and several nieces and nephews. She also treasured a long-standing and close friendship with her dear friend, Mabel.
Besides her parents Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Warren; daughter, Anita; and siblings, Tony, Paula, and Velma.
Mary spent the last years of her life living at MacGillivary Guest Home, where Mary took great joy in the care, and warmth of the staff around her. Many thanks to the staff of MacGillivary Guest Home, and 3B CBRH.
A graveside memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Cemetery, Louisbourg, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after at the Louisbourg Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
