We, the family, regret to announce the sudden passing of our mother, Dorothy Louise Axworthy on Monday, June 24, 2024, at home in Sydney.

Born on December 4, 1956, in Sydney, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Frank and Ella (King) Axworthy. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister, Loretta; brother, Bingy and partner, Fred Hawryluk.

Dorothy worked for many years as a LGBS at Harbourside Elementary School before her retirement.

Dorothy will be remembered for her caring heart and endless kindness. Dorothy enjoyed spending her days with her family especially over a hot cup of tea. Dorothy’s most cherished memories were spending time with her grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Darren (MaryAnn); daughter, Chelsea (Cameron) and son, Francis; grandchildren, Theo, Hunter, Caleb, Bryce, Kaley and Elly; brothers, Gerald (Anita), Gary (Gail), Lenny, Glenn (Michelle), Duane ‘Cheetah’ (Shelly) and Troy (Susan); sisters, Betty Gerrior, Beverly (Kevin) Rafferty, Debbie (Cecil) Koehler, and Margie (John) MacLeod; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place to honour Dorothy’s wishes. A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier at 12 p.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
