It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather, Michael Daniel MacLean on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the age of 66, in the Au Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born on November 4, 1957, Michael was a son of the late Michael and Shirley (MacLellan) MacLean.

Michael was the loving husband to wife, Beverley; father to Michael (Brittany), Andrew (Amy), and the proud grandpa of five grandsons, Michael, Ben, Brady, Jace, and Alec.

Michael is survived by his brothers, Richard, John and Jim; sisters, Theresa (Scott), Karen, and Leisa; brothers-in-law, Reg (Judy), George (Marion), and Donnie, sisters-in-law, Darlene (Murray), Rose (Donnie); as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Michael was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Victoria Hutchings, and sister-in-law, Mabel Hutchings.

Michael was employed for many years at Scotia Wholesale. He then worked as a Sales Rep for Sysco, M&S Food Services, and later retired due to illness from Ideal Foods.

Michael was a member of the Albert Bridge Fire department for 25 years, serving as Treasurer and Fire Chief. He truly loved serving his community in these roles and was able to build many wonderful friendships.

In his younger years, Michael enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his ATV, fishing, scuba diving, traveling with friends, and he was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.

Visitation for the late Michael MacLean will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 6-9 pm on Monday, May 27, 2024. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held in the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ikechukwu Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. Interment will take place in Oakfield Cemetery, Marion Bridge.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael may be made to your nearby food bank or local food cupboard as this was something that Michael truly enjoyed doing with his grandsons.
