Sydney
The family of Viola Agnes (MacPhee) Troke, age 89, regret to announce her passing on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Viola was the daughter of the late Donald John MacPhee of New Waterford, and Agnes Learmonth Clarke of Scotland and New Waterford.
Viola was the loving mother to children, Therese (Jim Carroll), Daniel (Joanne MacKinnon), Kathleen (Jake Levesque), and Shawna Troke. Also loving grandmother to James, Madison, Shasta, Summer, Danny, Laura, John, Jaden, and survived by siblings, Teresa (Joseph Lee), Steve (Dorothy), Margaret Hornung and Frances Smith.
Besides her parents, Viola was predeceased by husband, Daniel Troke; siblings, Flora MacPhee, John Patrick MacPhee and Jean Flemming.
In her early years, Viola was involved in badminton and the army reserves. She was employed with Eaton’s in New Waterford and Kmart in Sydney. Once she married, she became a full-time home maker.
In her later years, Viola found a home away from home under the care and love of Noreen Nicholson at Southview Guest Home. Noreen and staff provided her with so many special memories in her golden years and became part of our family.
Viola was a quiet woman. She took so much pride in her Celtic heritage and spoke fondly of her trip to Scotland to celebrate her grandparent’s golden anniversary. She always said she was so lucky that her siblings were her best friends. Viola had been a lifelong member of the Society of the Little Flower, Saint Therese of Lisieux. Her strong faith gives us the comfort in knowing that she is at peace.
Funeral service to celebrate the life of Viola Troke will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.
