Whitney Pier

We, the family of Mary Christine ‘Chrissy’ McLean, regret to announce her passing on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, under the care of the palliative care team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, at the age of 76.

Born on March 28, 1947, in Sydney, Chrissy was the daughter of the late Walter and MaryAnn (MacSween) Hindle.

Chrissy is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Vance) Young; son, Jason McLean; She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her two grandchildren, Paige Young and Logan (Lauren) Young; sisters, Jo and Caddy; sister-in-law, Jackie Hindle; as well as many special nieces and nephews by whom she will be greatly missed.

Besides her parents, Chrissy was predeceased by her son, Stephen; sisters, Jessie, Norma, Marge, and brothers, Eddie and Donnie.

In her younger years Chrissy loved to play bingo and visit the casino, helped run a family canteen, baked the best homemade bread and poured herself into spending endless hours with her loving children, grandchildren and siblings.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Chrissy McLean will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, September 2, 2023. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Private family interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Chrissy may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton and the Cancer Patient Care Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
