Bible Hill

With deepest regrets we, the family announce the passing of Constance Ann ‘Connie’ (nee Kiley) Charland on Sunday, June 4, 2023, in Truro.

Born on January 11, 1941, in Sydney, Connie was a daughter of the late Basil Sebastian and Mary Blanche (Lane) Kiley and grew up in a loving family with 15 siblings. Connie was a devoted wife to the late Rene-Pierre ‘Peter’ and a loving mother to Michele, Marcel (Jintana) and Leonard, who died in infancy.

Connie is survived by sisters, Mary ‘Mame’ (the late Roy) Willett and Sandra (Sandy) Kippen; brothers, Larry (Karen), and Harvey (the late Carol Anne); twin brother, Kevin (Jeanette) and sisters-in-law, Anne Marie Kiley and Patsy Kiley.  Connie is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jasmine, Jessie-Lee and Logan; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Connie was predeceased by her siblings, Madeleine (Ron) Andrews, Doris (Bart) Corbett, Gordon, Ray, Marina MacKinnon (Joe), Jim, Kathleen Campbell, Lorraine McInnis (Al), Linda MacIsaac (Greg), and Terry (Doris).

Connie was a proud and devout Catholic. She held her Nova Scotia heritage from Whitney Pier close to her heart, reading the Cape Breton Post daily.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to their exceptional neighbours, particularly Steve, in Bible Hill, for their unwavering support and kindness during the past two years.

A special gratitude is extended to the compassionate Palliative Care Team, VON and Home Care providers who provided dedicated care to Connie in her final months.  The family also extends their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of the palliative care unit at the Colchester East Hants Health Center, Truro, for their exceptional support and compassion.

Memorial service to celebrate the life of Connie Charland will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 1 p.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
