The family of Walter James Hanson, regret to announce his passing on Monday, March 6, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 12, 1953, in Sydney, Walter was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (MacDonald) Hanson.

Walter worked as a chef at the Wandlyn Inn and the Addiction Centre for many years.

Walter is survived by his brothers, Trevor (Patricia), Pattie (Frances), and Roddie (Mary Diane); sisters, Mildred Cameron, Charlene (Chuck) Dornadic and Debbie Hanson; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Hanson, Diane Hanson, and Barbara Hanson; as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by his brothers, Guy, David, Charles, Beaton, Alden and Danny.

There will be no visitation or service for the late Walter Hanson. He will be laid to rest with his parents in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Brickyard Road, Albert Bridge, at a later date.

Donations in memory of Walter may be made to Hospice Palliative Care, Cape Breton or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
