Winnifred ‘Marie’ MacNeil (Gallant), age 72, of Beaver Cove, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Marie was born in Stellarton, NS, and was a graduate of Stellarton High (68). She graduated from St Francis Xavier University with a BBA (72). She met Greg, the love of her life and was married in 1972. They moved to Calgary, AB where they lived for 35 years, raising their family. Marie returned to school at University of Calgary for her Education Degree and loved teaching grades 1 and 2 for many years. After retiring back to Nova Scotia, she loved spending time with her grandkids.

Marie was predeceased by her parents, Collie and Isabel Gallant and her brother, Colin.

Marie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Greg MacNeil; daughters, Krista Cholak (Jonathan), Boisdale, and Shauna Anderson (Chris), Saskatoon; son, Blair MacNeil, Calgary; grandchildren, Emma, Daniel, Seth, Austin, Nevaeh, and Anthony; siblings, Keith Gallant (Helen), Frank Gallant (Colleen), Claire Gallant, and Jane Hall (Joe); brothers/sisters-in-law, Gerard MacNeil (Leah), Carmel MacNeil, and Marina MacLennan (Philip), all of Beaver Cove; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank most recently the beautiful staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care and the staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Soldier’s Cove for their care of Marie in her time of need. Thanks also to the County Homemakers and VON for years of support at home, and to the entire community for their kindness.

Marie was a member of the St. Andrew’s Parish, Boisdale. Visitation and memorial Mass to celebrate the life of Marie MacNeil will be held at St. Andrew’s Parish, Boisdale on Thursday, August 3, 2023. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. with the Mass to follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery, Boisdale. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Boisdale Fire Hall.

Donations in memory of Marie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
