White Point

May 5, 1938 – December 19, 2022

With great sadness and broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Cyril, surrounded by his family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Cyril is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 60 years, Marguerite (Naugle); children, Rose Dunphy-Brown (Liam), Joanne McKenzie (Ben), and Russell Dunphy; grandchildren, Avery, Adrianne, Ryan, Melissa, Travis, Mallory, and Aidan; step-grandchildren, Kathleen and Megan; great-grandchildren, Oaklyn, Rowan, Henry, Penny, Alex, Sloane and great-step-grandchildren, Keira, Kole, and Finnley.

Cyril is predeceased by his parents, Ellen Jane (Fitzgerald) and Gordon Dunphy; brother, Alex (Mabel) and sisters, Julie (Harold), Emma (Johnny) and Diane (Jim).

Cyril was proud to have been born and raised in White Point, Cape Breton, he left home and relocated to find work in Eastern Passage, where his three children were born and raised. Cyril and Marg moved back to White Point in their forties, where Cyril lobster fished for several years and ran a whale-watching tour and also the Two Tittle Bed & Breakfast for 32 years until their retirement.

Cyril was highly devoted to his Catholic faith. He took great pride in his independence and caring for his wife, Marg over the past few years. He enjoyed playing cards with special friends, Kevin and Bert, his daily bike drives to the Point Hill, his love of fiddle music and cheering for the Montreal Canadians.

Cyril will be missed by many of his friends in White Point. Life was made a little easier for Dad by so many, special thanks to his great neighbour, Murdock and the excellent company and kindness from the home care girls.

Visitation and memorial Mass to celebrate the life of Cyril Dunphy will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Dingwall on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. with memorial Mass to follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Jonas Uwaezuoke and Deacon Gordon MacKinnon (Cyril’s nephew) officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery, Dingwall.

Donations in memory of Cyril may be made to Buchanan Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

So sorry to hear of Cyril’s passing. I enjoyed giving him fiddle lessons a few years ago.
