With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Edna McIntyre on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, at the age of 94. 

Born in Gardiner Mines, Edna was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Gillis) Gouthro. 

Edna dedicated her whole life to her family.  She was an excellent cook and baker. Edna enjoyed doing puzzles and socializing with friends at the Gardiner Pensioners Club with a good game of cards. From time to time she could be found having a fun night out of town at the casino.  She will be missed by all that knew her.

Edna is survived by her children, Diane (Vic), Colleen (Wayne), John ‘Babe’ (Sharon) and Lorne (Michele); 13 grandchildren, Victor Jr., Kimberly, Kerry, Sherry, Wayne Jr., Bradley, Belinda, Derek, Jason, Garrett, Jerrott, Kenzie and Christopher; 29 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by special niece, Michelle (Rennie) Asada, who mom thought of as a daughter; special daughter-in-law, Michele, who never left mom’s side since her first stroke; brother, John Gouthro; sister-in-law, Lena Sweeney; as well as all other extended family members.

Besides her parents, Edna was predeceased by her husband, John William McIntyre and siblings, Daniel, Alex, John Bernard, Mary, Marg, Catherine, Annie Mae and Julia.

By Edna’s requested, there is no visitation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Father Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will take place in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion.

Donations in memory of Edna may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
