It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Dedrick announces her passing on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 after a brief illness on the palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her best friend and husband, Kevin Marshall; special grandson, Johnathan Dedrick and her loyal four-legged friend, Marley.
Born in Sydney River, Betty was the daughter of the late HCV and Margaret (Carmichael) LeVatte.
Betty is survived by her sons, Michael Dedrick (Tanya Radu), British Columbia, and Robert Dedrick, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Michael, Kenneth, Johnathan, Ryan and Sarah; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Tootsie LeVatte, Ontario; sister-in-law, Elizabeth LeVatte, Sydney River; cousin, Pearl MacKeigan, Howie Centre, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Cape Breton is a much sadder place without Betty Dedrick. Those fortunate enough to know Betty remember her easy smile and warm laughter. Betty was a person of deep Faith who focused her life on family and friends. She loved music and performed with great joy in the Cape Breton Song Birds, the Heritage Church Choir, the Inspirational Singers and at any opportunity to sing. Betty was blessed with a wide circle of friends who could always count on her support. She sought out those in need and offered her warmth, understanding, and kindness. Betty had a lifelong involvement with the LeVatte Construction Company. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her four brothers, Donnie (Dookie), Charlie, Harry (Eileen), Billy (Teasie) and sister, Catherine MacIntosh (John F.).
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Betty Dedrick will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), Whitney Pier on Monday, August 19, 2019. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Light refreshments will take place in the funeral home reception area, following the service.
Memorial donations in memory of Betty can be made to the Cancer Patient Fund or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
