Margaree Centre
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Malcolm Lee Phillips, on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck, surrounded by his loving family.
Malcolm was born in Inverness, on August 31, 1954 to parents, Thomas and Olga (Ross) Phillips. He was employed by the Department of Natural Resources for 40 years until his retirement in 2014, where he made many lifelong friends. He talked endlessly about the many road trips and adventures they went on. Dad loved the outdoors, cracking jokes, working in his garage and on his plow truck, spending time with his family and drinking a hot cup of coffee.
Malcolm leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 43 years, Verna (Ryan) and children, Natasha (Tom) Bona, Troy, Andrew (Natasha), Mabou and Carrie (Terry), Margaree Centre. Also left behind are his pride and joy, with whom he had a special connection, his grandchildren, Morgan and Kali Bona; Brody, Bradly, John Thomas and Nathan; Noah, Willow and Eliza. Malcolm is also survived by his siblings, Tom (Karen) and Harriet (Tommy) Chiasson; his nieces and nephews, Chris and Amanda; Edna and Robert. He is also survived by his in-laws, Margaret McNamara and Frances Ryan.
Besides his parents, Malcolm was predeceased by his mother and father in-law, Patrick and Jenny (Dorton) Ryan; as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

To Carrie, Natasha, Andrew, Verna and all the grand kids, all the love in the world. Malcolm was such a sweet soul and loved you all endlessly. My heart is with you all.
My deepest condolences to the family. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve known Malcolm since I joined the DNR survey crew in 2013. I really looked up to Malcolm, as he was a true master of his craft. Although I didn’t work beside him on a daily basis, the times I did will stay with me forever. There’s something about his personality that made me want to be around him. He may have been short in stature….but he was a real man’s man. I remember he wouldn’t hesitate to give us a stern tongue lashing if we did something wrong on the chainsaw…but that reprimand he would give us had real comradery and kindness behind it. I consider myself lucky to have known him. Rest in peace Malcolm. You’re one of a kind buddy….and you’ll be missed.
