It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Theresa Ann Whalen (Duffney), age 88, of Sydney. Theresa passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2019 in Harbourstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home, Sydney.

Theresa was born in Sydney and was raised by the late Dolly Dalton and Walter Ardelli.

Besides her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her husband, James Whalen; brothers, Pat and Raymond Duffney; sons, Raymond, Murdock Whalen and daughter, Patricia.

Theresa is survived by six children, Jimmy (Sharon) Debbie, Brian (Helen), Ronnie (Karen), Alice and Valerie (Roger); daughters-in-law, Agnes and Liz; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Theresa in her earlier years worked for the Little Flower Orphanage in Sydney, Holiday Inn and in the kitchen at the City Hospital until she retired. Theresa was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother who will be missed by all that knew her. Theresa enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially travelling to see her extended family as well. She was an avid dart enthusiast and bowler and loved watching soap operas, game shows and playing bingo and cards with the occasional visits to the casino.

The family of Theresa wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the many care organizations that helped to make her life better.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late Theresa Whalen will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), Whitney Pier.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Theresa may be made to Diabetes Canada, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
