We are sad to announce the passing of Gladys (Madower) Axworthy on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, Glace Bay.
Born on February 11, 1940 in Sydney, Gladys was the daughter of the late John and Ann (Bailey) Madower.
In her early years, Gladys worked at Humber Memorial Hospital in Weston, Ontario. Then she became a stay at home mom who had her hands full with her four children. Gladys is survived by her children, Frank (Mary) and John (Marian); granddaughter, Cassandra as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband, John ‘Gunner’ Henry Axworthy; daughter, Margaret Ann and son, Reg.
Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering to celebrate the life of Gladys Axworthy will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of the late Gladys E. Axworthy may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
Our deepest sympathy. We will miss Gladys very much. Love brother Fred&Iris

My heart breaks for all of you. More than anything I remember Aunt Gladys’ laugh and sense of humour. May you all find comfort in each other, in loving memories, and love sent to share this time. Hugs!!
Gladys and I were best friends in Prime Brook as children. I remember all the laughing and fun we had. Always skating on browns pond. My condolences to all her family.
