Whitney Pier

On Friday, September 21, 2018 some angels came and welcomed a wife, a mother and a friend. Guiding her on her journey is her father, Ferman J. Aucoin; mother, Catherine ‘Katie’ (Bantish) Aucoin; sister, Marilyn (Steve) Nicholson; maternal grandparents, Mary Kardash and William Bantish and paternal grandparents, Thomas and Eunice Doucette Aucoin.

Left behind is her husband of 35 years, Kevin Charles MacNeil; daughter, Lindsay; brother, David; special international daughter, Nico (MacNeil) Huang; with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and a group of wonderful friends.

Patsy was born and raised in Whitney Pier. She was proud to say, “I’m from the Pier, dear”. She attended Holy Redeemer Girls School and the Blue and White Sydney Academy. In her younger years, Patsy spent many hours at her family’s corner store on Townsend Street. She then ran Pat’s Fina (Petro Can on Victoria Road). For a few years she worked at Econo Camera. Finally, Patsy received her dream job at Canada Post where she has been employed for 31 years. She always made sure her customers were well taken care of.

When Patsy was diagnosed with cancer her heart was broken because she could no longer work. This was the hardest part of her illness. Coupled with her strong will to live, the love, support and encouragement from her family, friends and fur babies, Patsy found strength to battle her illness.

Patsy was an avid gardener who found peace and tranquility in her backyard garden. Patsy loved being involved in different projects. This was when she was the happiest. She loved to share stories about old Christmas traditions and faithfully celebrated the Ukrainian Christmas. She loved to cook, bake, and decorate for any special occasions.

We, the family of Patsy would like to express our thanks to her oncologist, Dr. Saliba, Dr. Megan Keating and all those who contributed to the care given to Pasty during her time of need.

Visitation for the late Patricia Denise Aucoin-MacNeil will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Tuesday, September 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral home. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

Donations in memory of Patsy may be made to Hospice Palliative Care, SPCA or Cape Breton Feral Cat Society.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

“You can no longer see me but please know that I am there. I am the flowers in the garden, I am the wind beneath your hair.”

Send an online condolence.
