It is with sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Michael Kenneth MacKenzie, age 20, on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Breton Ability Center, Sydney, surrounded by his family and all those who loved him.

Born on August 29, 1997 in Sydney, Michael was the only son of Allan and Dorothy (Graham) MacKenzie.

Michael lived in the care of the Autism Society for nine years in Sydney River, until he moved in to the Breton Ability Center for the remainder of his adult life. He was a huge fan of Spiderman and enjoyed playing ball.

Besides his parents, Michael is survived by his sisters, Brittany (Suede) and Christina; grandparents, John and Jessie (Corbett) Graham and Kathy (Musgrave) MacKenzie; as well as cousins and extended family members.

Michael was predeceased by his grandfather, Allan Mackenzie.

Visitation for the late Michael Kenneth MacKenzie will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  
Funeral service to celebrate the life of Michael will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 12 noon in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael may be made to the Autism Society or Canadian Cancer Society.

Family gives a very special thank you to all those who assisted in Michael’s care throughout the years and ensured he was always happy, healthy and comfortable.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

My son lived with Michael with the Autism Society until Michael moved to adult care at Breton Ability- I live in Halifax, so I would travel monthly to visit with my son and got to know Michael over the course of 2 years or so before he was moved to BAC. He was such a sweet boy- he loved tossing balls up the stairs, and playing in the yard in the summer, and would always be excited to see my mother and I. Our condolences to his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
