South Bar

It is with sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Jean Dianne Murphy, age 78, of South Bar. Dianne passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Dianne was born in Sudbury, Ontario on March 6, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Bill and Marie (McFarlane) McCullough.

Dianne grew up in Toronto where she met and married the late Redmond Murphy of South Bar, later moving back to South Bar in 1995.

Dianne is survived by her daughters, Janice (Russ) Degnan, Laurie-Anne (Beth) Clinton and Cara (Vladimir Perisic) Murphy; grandchildren, Angela, Sean, Ashley, Patrick, Eric, Leslie, Simon and Nolan; great grandchildren, Nya, Kaden, Nicholas, Jackson and Olin, and two very wonderful sisters, Ann Miller and Mary Siegrist and their families.

Besides her parents and husband, Dianne was predeceased by her sisters, Betty Hunter and Judy Beaton, and brother, Billy.

Family was everything to Dianne. Her Cape Breton friends treated her like one of their own and she thought of them as family. She loved to shop but not for herself. It was always to give away. She loved to give of her time, especially as a volunteer at Palliative Care. She enjoyed her time at T.O.P.S. and the sense of community it gave her. Dianne will be remembered as a very caring individual with a unique sense of humor.

Funeral service to celebrate the life of Jean Dianne Murphy will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the service. Interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines.

Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and volunteer staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care and support given to Dianne and her family. A special appreciation to Elaine who spent many hours talking, visiting and keeping the family updated on mom’s condition when we couldn’t be there.

Donations in memory of Dianne may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
