It is with sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Anthony Dziubek on Friday Feb. 19, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Whitney Pier on March 17, 1939, Joe was the son of the late Stephen and Anne (Yokubowski) Dziubek.

Joe spent all of his life in Whitney Pier and was very proud of his Polish Heritage. He was employed with Nova Scotia Power from 1956 until his retirement in 1999. Joe made many friends along the way most notably, Gary Murphy, Donald Durling and Howard Buckland, whom he spent a lot of quality time with after retirement. Most of all, Joe enjoyed spending time with his brother, Frank, going to hockey games and tending to the gardens in Boulardrie. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his brother, Frank; sister-in-law, Donna (Farrell); niece and goddaughter, Shauna Dziubek and other nieces, Stephanie (Kevin) Murphy and Sherry (Logan) Anderson. Joe is also surived by his grandnephews, Stephen, Landon, Avery and Keaton; grandnieces, Shealynn, Hanna and Lily; as well as many cousins and good friends.

Visitation for the late Joseph ‘Joe’ Anthony Dziubek will be held today (Monday) at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Joe will be on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the service light refreshments will be held in the funeral home reception area. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be made to the St. Mary’s Polish Church Fund or SPCA – Cape Breton Branch.

We would like to thank Palliative Care Unit staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Janusz Wawrzyszyn, Dr. Mark Sampson and Dr. David Wong, for the care given to Joe during his illness.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
