With sadness and fond memories we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, great grandmother, mother-in-law and friend, Elizabeth Beaton on April 2, 2011 at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.

Born in Mabou Coal Mines, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Alexander ‘Sandy’ and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (MacDonald) MacEachen.

Elizabeth was a lifelong member of the CWL of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mabou, as well as member of Cape Breton Fiddlers Association. A gifted Cape Breton Scottish piano player, she and her late husband, Donald Angus Beaton entertained for many years at Cape Breton square dances, concerts, picnics and weddings.

Elizabeth is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Alex Angus) MacDonald, Mabou, Mary (Danny) graham, Judique, Joan (Angus Tulloch) MacDonald, Brook Village; sons, Angus (Jessie), Mabou, Sandy (Ann), Sydney, Joey (Karen), Mabou, Kinnon (Betty), Long Point and Carl, Dartmouth; daughter-in –law, Gwen (Gillis) Beaton, Mabou; sister and lifelong friend, Mary Elizabeth White, Mabou; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Elizabeth is predeceased by her son, Francis; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (MacDougall) Beaton; grandson, Duane Joseph Beaton; great granddaughter, Emma MacDonald; sisters, Mary MacDougall, Sarah Murphy and Katie Ann MacDonald; brothers, Donald A. and Hughie MacEachen. Following the death of her parents at an early age, Elizabeth was adopted into the family of her belated uncle and aunt, Duncan and Mary (MacDonald) MacEachen and as a result was further predeceased by sisters, Agnes MacDonnell, Mary Ann Beaton, Bessie Cummings, and Cassie Houlihan along with brothers, Hughie Duncan, Danny and Alex Angus MacEachen.

Visitation for the late Elizabeth Beaton will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 5, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou. Funeral mass to celebrate the life of Elizabeth Beaton will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Angus Morris officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.

Donations in memory of Elizabeth may be made to Inverary Manor, Inverness, N.S. or St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund, Mabou, N.S.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
