Whitney Pier

With profound sadness we, the family of John Allen ‘Ali’ Brewster, regret to announce his passing on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on July 30, 1964, in Glace Bay, Ali was the son of the late Cecelia Brewster and Richard Cormier.

Ali spent his life working various odd jobs such as carpentry, roofing, and labourer to name a few.  His passion was working outdoors and helping seniors in the community with odd jobs.

In addition to his work history, Ali was known above all for his sharp tongue, sense of humor and partying with his family and friends. Those who knew him well, would say “depending on the day”, he brought joy to those around him.

He is survived by his children, Melanie, Weston, and Mason (Milo); grandchildren, Kyree, Aria, Kayden, Colby, and Keegan; siblings, Glenn (Diana), Claudelle (James), Cecil, Laurie (Stewart), Richard (Crystal), Vincent, and Shauna; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ali was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and brother-in-law, John MacDonald.

We love you Ali and hope you are at peace.  As you would say “You can take the cat out the alley, but you can’t take the ‘Ali’ out the cat”.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a non-profit charity of your choice in Ali’s honor.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Ali Brewster will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, June 27, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
