We, the family of Mary Jones, regret to announce the passing of our mom at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Mary was born on March 3, 1947, in New Waterford to the late James Jones and Catherine Bennett.
Mary is survived by her three sons, Vincent (Terry), David, and Michael; two grandchildren, Dalton Crane, and Catherine Pickup (Travis); three great grandchildren, Victor, Kyland, and Haven; brother, Alex (Charmaine), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by a son, Ronald; brothers, Jimmy (Pat), Allan (in infancy), and her sister, Elaine (Alan).
We would like to thank the doctors and staff of both the Emergency and ICU Departments for your excellent care of Mary throughout this difficult time. A special thank you to Mary’s niece, Karen Easton for all of her help over the last 3 years.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Jones will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Friday, May 29, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. There will be a private interment at a later date.
Donations in memory of Mary may be made to Elderdog Canada or the SPCA of Cape Breton.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Mary was often at our home when i was young. She and my mom, Evelyn, and their group of friends would gather for their weekly fix of Kino or cards. She was fun and such a nice person to be around. Very sorry for your loss.

Mary Jones was a great person. Kind, generous, hard working. And, she loved her family. I knew her through our ElderDog connection and I can attest, as will her family and other friends, she also loved Lucky, her black lab. They are together again now in a place with no pain or worry.
