Whitney Pier
Beverly Ann Bryan (nee Eddy), age 85, passed away peacefully at Hospice Cape Breton in Membertou, Sydney, on Friday, May 1, 2026. She leaves behind a family and a community that loved her deeply, and a legacy that will endure for generations.
Born in Sydney in 1940, Beverly grew up with strong roots in Whitney Pier that would stay with her throughout her life. She married Edward ‘Teddy’ Bryan on September 10, 1956, beginning a partnership that would span almost seven decades and take them across the country. As Teddy pursued his career with the Royal Canadian Regiment, Beverly accompanied him with grace and good humour, making a home in Oromocto, Edmonton, and Sydney, and embracing each new chapter with characteristic warmth. Upon his retirement, the couple settled in Toronto, where Beverly spent 25 happy years. In 2021, they returned to Whitney Pier, to be closer to family by coming home to the place Bev always loved best.
Those who knew Bev will remember her above all as someone who brought people together. A devoted player of Tarbish, she had a gift for filling a room with laughter and keeping friends and family at the table long into the night. Many carry fond memories of playing cards into the wee hours in her company, a joy she and Teddy shared wholeheartedly. She also had a deep love of music, and a particular fondness for the 60s with its R&B roots which could often be heard in her home.
Beverly is survived by her soulmate, Teddy; children, Noel (Colin), Blaine (Linda), and Dena (Ralph); eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She will be especially missed by her sisters, Louise (Garfield), Barbie (Wayne), and Cathy (Bernie), and her brother, Martin (Darlene). A troupe of devoted nieces and nephews will forever miss Aunt Bev. She was the foundation of her family, the one who gathered everyone in, who made occasions feel like celebrations, and who always led with love and fun.
Beverly was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Margaret (MacInnis) Eddy and brothers, Don (Judy) and Jerry.
Beloved in her community, Beverly’s absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her for many years to come. She was one of a kind and she will never be forgotten.
Memorial service to celebrate the life of Beverly Bryan will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in the All Faith Garden, Whitney Pier.

Noel, Blaine, Dena:
So sorry for the loss of your lovely, beautiful, caring mother Bev. Thou it’s been many years since I’ve seen her there are those you meet along your journey in life who help shape you, mold you, n taught you what love looks like, and aspire to be like, Bev was one of those women. I do my calendar every year since I had my 1st son Jerome, I was a teenager when Bev and I sat on the water bed as she filled out her calendar every birthday, anniversary, special occasion, nothing was forgotten by Bev, I called it the love calendar. You were all so lucky to have such a loving mother, God speed Bev ❤️ Sara Smile
