It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of George ‘Eddie’ Burke, announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and friend, who passed peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the age of 74.

Born on October 23, 1951, in Sydney, Eddie was the son of George and Gertrude (Lahey) Burke.

Eddie is survived by three children, Kenny, Halifax, Ashton (Devan), Sydney, and Arielle (Kyle), Sydney; three grandchildren, Jean Patrick, Jaxon, and Greyson. Also left to mourn are many brothers, sisters, uncles and nephews.

Dad’s pride and joy was his beloved dog, Bailey. Wherever Dad was, so was Bailey. He enjoyed his daily walks in the woods, fishing, hunting and before retirement Dad spent many years working on the lake boats as a first mate. His love for the sea and open water will never be forgotten. Dad loved walking along the coastline in Baleine which also had a special place in his heart.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of 4c and the Palliative Care Unit for your compassion during such a difficult time, and a special thank you to Cyril for looking after Dad over the last few months.

Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will follow at a later date.

Donations in memory of Eddie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
