The family of Gary Wayne Grant regret to announce his passing on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born on September 27, 1955, in Sydney, Gary was the son of the late John Samuel and Mary Evangeline Grant.

Gary worked at CN Rail as a carman in Halifax where he lived for many years. He loved the outdoors, especially gardening. Hunting and fishing were his passions. He also liked traveling and exploring.

Gary is survived by his children, Carrie, Billy, Sam, Christian, and Christopher; brothers, Stephen, and Randy (Mary Ann); sister, Cheryl; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and his former spouse, Loretta Dwyer- Grant.

Besides his parents, Gary was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, and David.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Gary Grant will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Monday, April 27, 2026. A gathering of family and friends will take place from noon to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

Donations in memory of Gary may be made to a charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

I am so sorry to hear about Gary, and now David. Although I have not seen them in many years they have always remained in my lifetime and childhood memories. Our growing up on Victoria Road was full of many adventures and fond memories.
