In Loving Memory of Roger Alexander Chant
9/26/1952 – Missing Since 3/10/26

Roger Alexander Chant has been missing since March 10, 2026, while fishing in Belleisle, Annapolis County. Though time has passed without answers, his life continues to be honored and remembered by all who know and love him.

Born on September 26, 1952, in Sandy point, to Walter and Beudah Chant. Roger is a man of deep faith, a devoted outdoorsman, and someone who found joy in both the quiet of nature and the warmth of home. He has a strong love for Jesus that guided the way he lives—through kindness and humility toward others.

He is widely known for his passion for the outdoors. Whether fishing at sunrise or heading into the woods before daylight during hunting season, Roger felt closest to peace in God’s creation. Fishing and hunting are more than hobbies to him—they are part of who he is. He has a gift for finding the perfect fishing spot and a love for sharing stories of his time outdoors. Not only does Roger have a passion for the outdoors, he is an avid animal lover. From his many favorite canine companions to his latest “children”, his cats, Dora and Peg.

Just as much as he loves the outdoors, Roger loves bringing people together through food. As a professional chef, he found his passion as a self-professed Coleslaw Connoisseur, especially from Mary Brown’s. He is known for his cooking—whether it was preparing a meal from the day’s catch, cooking for family gatherings, or simply making sure no one left the table hungry. Once upon a time his kitchen was a place of laughter, fellowship, and love.

He also has a deep love for good music. Whether it was playing in the background while he cooked, listening on a quiet evening, or sharing favorite songs with family and friends, music was another way he connected with the people he loves. He was always sending messages filled with his latest favorite songs, just as he would proudly share photos of his trophy catches from the water or what he brought home from a successful hunt. Those small, thoughtful moments are now cherished memories by all who received them.

Roger also found great joy in singing, especially as part of a men’s group called The Sound of Men where he shared both his voice and his faith. Those who sang alongside him remember not only his love of music, but the fellowship and spirit he brought to every gathering.

Above all, he cherishes his family. He deeply loves spending time with his siblings, sharing laughter, stories, and the kind of bond that only family can bring. Those moments together remain treasured memories. Roger is a walking prayer answered. His mother and family prayed for 40 years for him to encounter Jesus. One fateful Sunday, he met the Lord and gave Him everything. His life has never been same, and he told everyone he knew and met about the One who saved him.

Family and friends remember Roger for his warm heart and steady presence. He cherished time spent with loved ones—around a campfire, on the water, or gathered around a table he helped fill. Roger’s community in South Shore were like family to him as well. He has a far-reaching friend group with many best friends. His friendship circle was so big, when asked by family to move back to Cape Breton he declined because he couldn’t leave the people he lived life with every day. Roger lived a modest life but would give you anything he had, whether it be the smelt he just caught or fresh fish he just smoked.

Since his disappearance, Roger has been deeply missed by Family, friends, church community and more. His absence is felt not only in the lives of those closest to him, but also in the quiet places he once loved—the rivers, the woods, and the home he filled with warmth, music, and faith.

Those who have gone on before him and will meet him in glory – his wife, Katherine Ross; parents, Walter and Beudah Chant; grandparents, Rev. Sheldon and Agnus Myers, and Alexander and Elizabeth Chant; brothers, Moyle Buchanan and Bishop Wayne Chant, and grandson, Aiden.

Left here to miss him are his daughter, Fonia (Tim) Bagnell; son, Troy Chant; stepchildren, Denise Ross, and Patrick (Tammie) Ross; grandchildren, Rebecca, Jessie, Sophie, Moses, Hazel, Madelyn, and Riley; siblings, Bishop Maynard (Janet) Chant, Rosette (Bishop William) Legge, Rev. Sheldon (Florence) Chant, Rev. Jamie (Darlene) Chant, and Kimberly (Vince) Penney; sister-in-law, Sherry Chant, and many nieces, nephews, and a whole big load of friends.

“Those who walk in faith never truly leave us—they live on in every life they touched.”

There will be a celebration of life for Roger at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, held at the Lockport Pentecostal Church, 109 Hall Street, Lockport, NS.

There will be another memorial in Cape Breton announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
